SUPPORTING ACCURACY

The CCECD 9-1-1 database, mapping, and GIS division of the 9-1-1 Systems department processes the addition of new streets and block ranges to the Master Street Address Guide, as well as or any updates to existing streets and block ranges. By making corrections to incorrect entries and removing or combining existing records, our staff is constantly enhancing our database to accommodate new development and verify existing addresses.

TROUBLESHOOTING AND RESOLVING LOCATION DISCREPANCIES

CCECD 9-1-1 uses advanced geographic information systems that go beyond traditional mapping to create a robust profile based on multiple data sources. We are always working to enhance GIS data in support of 9-1-1 operations — quickly investigating location discrepancy information submitted by our communication centers in both the automatic location identification database and our GIS data set. This streamlined process enables fast trouble resolution and provides for timely updates of both ALI and GIS data. We are also laying the groundwork for future phases of Next Generation 9-1-1 routing services, as well as the development of workflows for efficiency and quality assurance.

CCECD 9-1-1 collaborates with all cities within Cameron County TX to verify that our GIS data reflects all jurisdictional boundaries and emergency services zones. In addition, we work closely with wireless service providers to route the 9-1-1 calls to the appropriate public safety answering point (PSAP) based on the coverage area of each tower.
