The objective of 9-1-1 Public Education Program is to educate the public on the proper use of 9-1-1 in order to obtain help in an EMERGENCY.
The three basic messages for the program:
- When to call 9-1-1?
- How to call 9-1-1?
- What to say in case of a police, fire or medical emergency?
CCECD works in conjunction with the Police and Fire Departments in Cameron County to deliver its 9-1-1 Public Educational Messages and materials to its residents. These programs have proven to be effective and has helped reduce the overall number of inappropriate 9-1-1 calls over the years.
The public is encouraged to call 9-1-1 when they need an emergency response from police, fire, or emergency medical personnel. If general information or non-emergency assistance is needed, non-emergency telephone numbers for police and fire departments or other government services should be called. The non-emergency telephone numbers for police are found on the Emergency Resources page of this website.
