This training focuses on the proper use of CodeRED tools to support emergency communications, community notifications, and critical incident response within the jurisdiction served by the department.
Participants will receive instruction on system navigation, user roles and permissions, alert creation, geographic targeting, message customization, contact management, and best practices for emergency notifications. The course also covers alert activation procedures, reporting features, and documentation requirements.
Authorized users will engage in scenario-based exercises that simulate real-world incidents such as missing persons, severe weather events, evacuation notices, road closures, law enforcement emergencies, and public safety advisories. Emphasis is placed on ensuring timely, accurate, and professional communication with the community while maintaining compliance with departmental policies and operational protocols.
Upon completion of the training, personnel will be equipped to confidently utilize CodeRED to enhance situational awareness, strengthen public outreach, and support coordinated emergency response efforts for the residents and visitors of South Padre Island. Personnel will also be trained on how to assist community members with registering for the CodeRED Emergency Notification System, helping increase public participation and ensuring residents receive timely emergency alerts and important public safety information.
